Harlem Renaissance 100: A Community Celebration

A community-wide celebration marking the landmark 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance. This celebratory community collaborative effort, spanning the next two years, is comprised of over 13 Harlem cultural institutions who will be spearheading the celebration and the launching of an extended series of programs, events and cultural activities. Beginning Fall 2018, HARLEM RENAISSANCE 100, will showcase the artists of today while highlighting the artistic and creative energy and exuberance that became the nexus of African-American cultural identity that served to make Harlem a world renown community.

Adam Clayton Powell Jr.

Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was a Baptist pastor and an American politician, who represented Harlem, New York City, in the United States House of Representatives (1945–71). He was the first person of African-American descent to be elected from New York to Congress. Story based on the statue in memory of his person and achievements on 125th street.
